German Expressionist painter Max Pechstein was influenced by the paintings of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse and the Fauve artists. Pechstein was a member of the Die Brucke group. Over 300 of his paintings were confiscated by the Nazis and he only became reinstated as a professor at the Berlin Academy after World War 2 where he won many awards and gained full recognition for his work.
